How important do you think a college GPA should be?

For continuing on to a master's or ph.d. program, very important.  For a job, not important.

I hate when people put their gpa or test scores on a resume. I almost never advance them to the next round. I sincerely care more about what experiences they've had and the references they list. They aren't going to be studying for exams or writing papers for me once I hire them.

I'm torn on this. For some degrees I think it's kind of an overall pass fail. You either got your degree or you didn't. For others, like medical professionals, I think GPA does matter. There's a joke from Seinfeld that says "Somebody has an appointment with the worst doctor in the world tomorrow". But it's true! I don't know what the minimum requirements are for getting your MD/PHD, but I know I would like my personal doctor to have at least a...3.4/3.5 average? A solid B? I don't feel like that's too much to ask for, but I'm not going to ask my doctor what their GPA was. Maybe there is a minimum GPA in high risk degrees like that, I don't know, I didn't go to college.
