is it normal for a gynecologist to stick a speculum into your vagina dry?

I wasn’t suppose to even get a Pap smear but I had some discharge she wanted to check and I told her I wasn’t comfortable with the speculum and she insisted anyways and tried to stick it in dry and I asked her to stop so instead she stuck her finger inside my vagina to check.

Is that normal? I don’t know if my sister or my mom told me that wasn’t normal to stick it in dry they use lube.

Anyone else experience this?
