Should I make myself a cake for my 18th or just forget about it?

I’m 18 on July 11 and I’m living with my boyfriend. He doesn’t celebrate birthdays, or Christmas or anything to do with this country (he is Thai and I’m Australian).

In the past my mum would always celebrate my birthday. She would make me a cake and take me somewhere nice like the zoo, National park or even a cafe.

She lives in Tasmania and I’m in nsw so she won’t be with me. She wanted to order a cake for me but told me she can’t pay for it.

I don’t know. Is it just normal to not celebrate birthdays as you get older?

I don’t have a lot of ingredients (or money) but I’m thinking I could make a banana cake for myself with chocolate icing or something I don’t know.

Maybe I’m getting too upset about a pointless thing. But I spent Christmas doing nothing and I just made a roast dinner for myself (boyfriend doesn’t like English food) and basically I just feel like I’m simply not important just because I’m going to be an adult. But I have friends who go to expensive restaurants for their 18th and I’m getting discouraged for making my own cake. 😭
