When does breastfeeding get “easier”? Less painful?

FTM due in October, planning to breastfeed for the first 6 months at least. Everyone I know has said how difficult it is in the beginning. When did it get better for you? A more rewarding experience? What should I expect in terms of a learning curve?

my baby latched with no problem from birth thank god, n were almost 3 months into bed, so its not always hard r painful at least not yet

It’s hard but please don’t give up. It took a week for me then we were good. It’s just a matter of finding the right position and helping baby get the best latch. Speak with the lactation consultants the hospital before going home. They were a huge help for me! Even after leaving the hospital

I remember the first 3-4 weeks being really hard with my nipples scabbing over (one worse than the other). I used lots of lanolin and those gel cooling pads but I stuck it out and me and my daughter had a wonderful breastfeeding relationship until 19 months.

Right side, no pain at all. Left side super painful the first six weeks due to a wound that came the first day. My best tips: don’t give up

I didn’t find breastfeeding painful at all. The only time I do now is when she “chews” on my nipple. She’s currently teething so I’m pumping bottles for her during the day and bf’ing at night. 
Every one is different. Every baby is different.

honestly it was never an issue for me, made sure we had a great latch from the beginning so I was never sore, cracked, bleeding and it never hurt. i could see how if you have sensitive nipples though it could take time to get use to

mine starts hurting the 4th day bad. I pumped for a few days to get a break and now I just breast feed through the night and morning and then pump through out the day to get a good freezer stash going

I would suggest having a certified lactation consultant name and number as part of your resources when you leave the hospital. Especially if its a weekend. That way you have it if you need it. A lot of them do Home visits. It’s hard to anticipate what your experience will be.

It is painful to begin with none going to lie. Invest in a good cream and have a breast pump on hand just in case. My nipples were sore so when it was Too painful I pimped. Once they are matched on correctly and you get the technique right it isn’t painful at all... accept whatever help or support u are offfered. The nurses in the hospital were very helpful to me.
