Am I missing out by not getting married?

Been with my man for almost 8 years. So many people I know are getting married/engaged/pregnant and although I feel like we’re already married, and I don’t truly believe that marriage is necessary, I’m still afraid I may be missing out! We’re in no rush for kids, (may not even have any), and we do own a house together with our adorable fur babies, but I feel as if that might be as exciting as it gets for us...

It depends on what is important to you. It may not matter much now, but in the unfortunate event of a serious injury, or God forbid one of you passes, it could seriously complicate what you own together. Marriage definitely isn't a requirement, but at least have a good will or legal agreement on your shared property.

You're just missing out on being able to make important decisions on your partner's behalf for example if he were in an accident, you would have no say in his treatment and the doctors legally can't give you any information, the decisions made for him would be from his closest family member.

I think that marriage is just a further action to represent y’alls love for each other. It’s up to y’all of course but there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting married. It’s actually quite fun!

I’ve been with my husband for 9 years and married for 5 of those years. I LOVE being married! But, if we hadn’t gotten married we would still be together. Marriage isn’t essential to a happy long term relationship. Talk to your SO about it and get his opinion!

Being legally married is just a piece of paper that costs a fortune to get rid of if a couple doesn’t work out. If you’re happy and y’all both agree, then you’re fine. I know a lady that has been with her husband for 20 plus years. Neither one of them wanted to get married but they acted like they were. He fell sick with cancer and it pushed them to get married so she can make decisions on his behalf. But that’s the only reason they signed that piece of paper. It’s all on what you and your partner want.
