Marrying into debt?

So my fiancé is in debt, around $20,0000-30,0000. He did tell me he was in debt but I didn’t know how much until now. I was going to pay it off for him or at least help pay once we get married but turns out it’s mostly from traveling with his ex. I don’t want to have to pay for him and his ex’es past vacation debt for years especially when I’m not even sure if he’s completely over her. When I first found out he was in debt I was shocked because one of my life goals is to not be in debt. I just think you shouldn’t use money you don’t have when it’s not an extreme situation. He’s just so bad with money and spent so much on stupid shit with his ex in the past but he’s truly a good guy. We’re planning on getting married in 2020. Should I tell him we have to hold it off until he is financially settled? I know if we get married I’m going to help him pay because I’m that kind of person because I don’t want him to keep getting in debt when I’m saving up while we’re married. Should I wait to marry him until he sorts his shit out??
