should i put down both dogs?

brother dogs...one was diagnosed with advanced kidney failure... they get really anxious without another when separated and the other has had severe cataracts and can't walk around the culdesac without getting tired to the point I had to carry him home
I've been sobbing all day 
the one laying down has adv. kidney failure we're waiting till my brother gets home from work...
they're 13 and have been amazing family members

As a vet tech, I can say that euthanasia is a blessing. I say this because we have the choice to not let our family members suffer. I am a firm believer in quality of life over quantity of life. If you are afraid that his brother won’t be able to function without him,  you may want to consider euthanasia. I am also a firm believer that when they stop eating, you know it’s time. unfortunately, ONLY YOU know the answer to these questions and you have to feel comfortable with it. I have been in a few euthanasia where siblings were put down together and they are the most heart wrenching thing but in the long run, their parents figured that they lived their entire lives together and then they moved on to heaven together. I pray for a comforting decision for you and I pray that your babies don’t have to suffer one bit. Only you can answer this question. No one else can.

I know it’s hard...we put our golden down because he had advanced cancerous tumors. But we only put him down when we knew he had no quality of life. If they’re playing some and having fun with each other, I would just ride it out. I’m sorry for your situation ♥️

Maybe get another dog, so they won't be that anxious. Im sure he would get used to it, please dont put them both down.

I wish my parents would put down 2 of their dogs... it’s so sad... they are miserable! Both are 75- 95lbs, completely blind, hair falling out, both are totally unable to control their bladder so the house always smells like pee (it’s tile but STILL). It’s smells like dying dog pee. They are old and it 105 degrees. They have no quality of life other than peeing/pooping/eating/and sleeping. It’s so so so sad. They just refuse. They don’t get bathed. I’ve begged them to put them down but they always makes excuses.... I think you are definitely doing the right thing love. It’s so hard, but ending their suffering is the best thing to do.

For both people and animals, I'm for not extending life if there's a lot of pain and no quality of life at all (for people, of course, if that's what the family or the person wants).

Yes, anyone who voted 'no' is selfish. If the puppers do not have a good quality of life or are in pain, then the answer is yes. We put our pup down several years ago and she was 18. She was nearly blind, couldn't make it outside to go to the bathroom, wimpered in pain a lot, couldn't get up to eat or drink, and had lumps develop all over her body. When she was put down, the vet said it was cancer. I wanted her put down sooner because I knew she was suffering, but other family members didn't agree and so they waited another several months until she was pretty bad. At that point, it was the most humane thing we could do for her. She was a good dog and lived a long and happy life, and as much as I miss her, I don't have any regrets about putting her to sleep because she was no longer in pain and suffering.

My main question I’d ask to myself is: are they in pain or suffering?
We had to put down our gorgeous yellow lab two years ago after he developed mega esophagus & couldn’t eat. He would have starved to death and we didn’t want him to suffer. If you believe they’re suffering or are in pain, I would say giving them the comfort of not having to suffer anymore is the best way to do things.

They both sound ready to go.... anxiety isn’t even a factor as this point. 
They’re both the same age and have health problems where it’s hindering their life. I would let them go at the same time, because THEN the anxiety would make their condition so much worse. 
I’m kinda in the same situation. ALL of mine except one 3 year old my ex left behind are above 10 years old and it’s back to back to back losing another one 😭

If the dog is in pain and suffering, then yes. If you feel medication can help, and prolong his life, than no. I work with dogs everyday and I see too many elderly dogs who go suffering in the later years of their life because their owners can’t part with them. 13 years is really good for a large breed dog. They lived a great life, and know you made the best decision for them.
