vasectomy reversal effectiveness?

my husband had a vasectomy 16 years ago and we’re now getting it reversed. has anyone else dealt with this? and if so, did it work?

My fiancé was approx 20 yrs post vasectomy, initially worked and then reoccluded. We are starting ivf this month. 
In hindsight I wish we’d just gone straight to ivf, would’ve saved us a lot of time and money, and so I’ve read since- it seems that after ten years post vasectomy, the odds of it working are slim. 
That being said, just because we were not lucky, there are stories of it being successful and I wish you all the best!

My husband had his vasectomy reversed after 10 years.  It was not successful and we are now into ivf.  It has been a long road but we are still hopeful :)  My only advice is to look at all of your options before doing the reversal.  It was expensive and painful.

My husband had his 1st vasectomy reversal surgery about 8 years after his vasectomy and it failed.  He had a 2nd surgery like a year later and it still didn't work.  We ended up moving on to using donor sperm.  Now we have a beautiful little girl thanks to that option/her donor and are about to start the IUIs to TTC baby #2 with the same donor.

Congrats on your decision to grow your family. I would say go into it knowing that reversal doesn’t always equal baby...even if you get return of live sperm. We had our vasectomy reversed day’s shy of 7 years. We are 17 months post reversal & do have return of sperm, but no bfp. Our counts are sooo low they said we need ivf w/icsi. We are hoping to increase counts via supplements enough to try an iui, or to get lucky with a spontaneous pregnancy despite what dr’s say. Wishful thinking. So...there are success stories on our VR group, which you should join, but there really doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why some are successful & others aren’t. Before the original vasectomy, if my husband sneezed it seemed I got pregnant.😂 Now, we regret it so much! Go into it with this knowledge & do your research. Depending on your Dr & how much he charges for the reversal, & how long you want to try, you might be better off doing sperm aspiration & ivf. Good luck on this beautiful journey to motherhood.❤️😊

my husband is 3 days post vasectomy reversal. we have a 3 week recovery still ahead of us but our doctor is optimistic. he is 19 years, I believe, post vasectomy. he said it is really based on how often the male ejaculates. it is a gamble always depending on what the vas deferens look like once they get in there.
