Where do I start with formula?

Hey, for a variety of reasons I’m planning on mix feeding, thing is I have no idea where to start with formula, what I need, how to prepare it, etc, so could someone please give me a crash course in where the hell to start and what to do! Thank you 🙏🏻☺️

I used Enfamil gentlease because it's great for sensitive tummies...You just need bottles, nipples, bottle brush for washing, maybe a sterilizer to be safe...and follow the directions on the package...oh, and I always used the inside of my wrist to test the temperature...it's super sensitive. Body temperature is best just like your milk. Baby won't love it because your milk is sweet and tailored to them by your body...but will get used to it in time...oh, and don't be surprised by judgement, I got it all re time for mixed feeding, but fed is best, so do you and be confident.

Every formula has different directions as to how to prepare it, so you need to follow the directions on the back. The formula I use (Hipp organic, Dutch version) is quite easy because it requires one scoop of formula per 1oz of water, but I’ve used others that required some math to figure out the number of scoops per ml of water. When you mix the formula with water, always measure the water first, then measure and add the powdered formula. Some formula is available in a ready-made version so all you do is pour and feed. That’s what we used in the beginning because it was so much easier, but unfortunately the formula that we decided to switch to doesn’t have that option.
If you decide on a powdered formula option, I suggest buying yourself an electric tea kettle because it has made my life so much easier. Generally what I do is boil a whole kettle of water and let it cool for several hours until it’s room temperature. After it’s cool, you can mix it with your formula. In the beginning, when my son was eating every few hours, I would make a big batch of formula using the Dr. Browns formula pitcher. It has a nice mixing handle and an easy pour spout, so I’d make around 150ml of formula and store it in the fridge until I was ready to pour some into a bottle to feed to my son. If you make formula ahead of time it must be used within 24 hours and always kept in the fridge until just before serving. If you breastfeed your baby will most likely prefer warmed milk, so you can either buy a bottle warmer (we love the Kiinde warmer), or you can heat some water on the stove and place your bottle in the water until it’s warm enough. For late-night feeds I cannot recommend a bottle warmer enough because it’s faster and safer because you can’t overheat the milk since it shuts off automatically after a certain amount of time.
