Arabic Tattoos - Offensive?

J

So my friend got a tattoo in the Arabic language. It is a cute quote and no harm was intended by getting the tattoo. However, her parents are FURIOUS over her getting this tattoo - because of 9/11. The quote has absolutely nothing to do with that at all. I will spare you all the details, but from what I believe -- why should we correlate an entire body of people/language to something one evil group did? They don't own the language, and this language was spoken long before 9/11 came about. They are trying to tell my friend that she needs to wear sleeves around family members to cover up the tattoo and telling her how disgusting it was that was the tattoo she chose to get.

What do you think about this? I would love to hear opinions on this. My friend is very upset and I'm sure she feels like her argument defending her tattoo to her parents wasn't very solid. I want to help her feel better about this.
