Tampons??

Question

I’m 15 and have never used a tampon. Its been almost a year since i started my period and I’m a virgin. Im very tired of using pads because they’re getting so annoying (especially at school). But Im scared it’ll hurt and i wont be-able to use one. Im very petite and have a very tiny body. So here are a few questions I have:
1. Do they hurt??
2. What size should i get for my first time?
3. What is the best, most comfortable brand ?
4. Can I use them at night?
5. What is the most comfortable position(s) to put one in?

If inserted properly, no, they don't hurt. The size you get depends on your flow. The smaller ones are for a lighter flow, while the supers are for a heavier flow. Brand choice is completely preference, but I personally prefer Tampax pearl as I find them to be the most comfortable and they don't tend to leak often. You can use them at night, but you shouldn't leave them in more than about 6 - 8 hours at a time so make sure you change it right before bed and right when you get up in the morning. I put mine in while sitting, but everyone's body is different so that will depend on what works best for you (I know a good friend of mine usually has to stand with one leg up on the tub).

If it hurts it's in wrong, so no it shouldn't hurt
Start with the lightest flow size, either 'light' or 'regular' absorbancy
Get a brand that has plastic applicator, cardboard is uncomfortable to insert.
You ~can~ wear it to sleep but only if you plan on sleeping 8 hrs or less. It's very important to not leave it in more than 8 hrs, and ideally changing at about 6
Try inserting in while standing above the toilet with knees bent like you're barely squatting, insertion while sitting is difficult

Tampons are great. When I was 16 I used my first tampon and I told my mom, and she was so surprised because she thought it would hurt if I was a virgin. That’s such a common misconception! It only hurts if there isn’t enough blood to lubricate your vagina.
I’d definitely go with the slim or petite size for your first try. The directions on the back of the box will say to raise your leg to insert for the first try, but tbh you dont have to do any of that bs. Just sit on the toilet like normal.
Personally, I wear panty liners with tampons bc I’m always afraid I may not make it to change the tampon before it’s full. Better safe than sorry. And to bed, it might be better to wear a pad. Toxic shock syndrome is a v real thing- unless you wake up throughout the night to check the tampon or to pee.
Don’t be scared. Once you get used to tampons you’ll be like “Wow this is so much better than wearing a blood soaked diaper all day.”

1. no, they do not hurt if inserted properly.
2. if you have a light flow, I would get the light tampons. if you have a medium flow, regular. if your flow is super heavy, super. but since you aren't used to them, I would choose the light or regular.
3. I use tampax radiant and find them to be very comfortable for me.
4. no, you will need to use a pad at night. if you leave a tampon in for longer than 8 hours, you're at higher risk for getting toxic shock syndrome. but you can wear them during the day, while playing sports, swimming, in the shower or tub, etc. just make sure to change it every 6 to 8 hours.
5. I usually stand up to insert them and spread my feet about shoulder width apart. if I do it sitting down, it ends up hurting, but everyone is different.
