make up tips

Ok I suck at make up, never had anyone to teach me...and I want to learn now so I can change up my look sometimes. But i don't have any idea what to do. so my question is, what make up should I buy. Like what is essential to buy? I don't want to buy make up I'll never use so I want to make sure I get the right stuff the first time
