get yourself a toy first so you could put it in yourself at your own pace so it could be comfortable and enjoyable for you both and it'll get you ready for him to put it in. Lots and lots of lube and relax. If you’re stressed and tense up it’s only going to hurt more. If you relax and communicate with him it can actually be enjoyable.
