Do you get your actual period on Nexplanon? Or is it withdrawal bleeding like the pill?

I noticed my first period on Nexplanon felt like the periods I had before I got on birth control. Definitely bad cramps and was heavy the first and second day rather than just the second, like before I got on birth control. 
Is Nexplanon bleeding an actual period or is it withdrawal bleeding?

when I had nexlpanon I bled for the first few weeks and then went a whole year did not bleed at all

I actually don't know. It kind of confuses me. You don't exactly have a withdrawal because you don't have any time without hormones, but it shouldn't be a true period either because that would be triggered by an unfertilized egg 🤷🏻‍♀️
My guess is any bleeding you experience is essentially breakthrough bleeding, which is more common with low-dose pills as well.

I stopped having periods almost completely I would spot every now and then but I would still cramp around the time I was suppose to have my period but it was nothing like before I got on the birth control
