Why do parents kiss their kids on the Mouth?

I know it's not sexual, but I can't imagine giving pecks or kissing my mom or dad on the mouth.   Is it a cultural thing?  It's interesting to see this interaction.   I don't think it's gross, just awkward.

Why do I give my husband a peck on the lips? To show affection. If there isn’t anything sexual about it, where’s the issue?

Because i love them. Once they get past a certain age ill go to the cheek. But he started it. Lol 
I was taking a nap on the couch when he was about 1 and he kisses me in my sleep.

Because I love sweet-lipped slobbery toddler baby kisses from my precious girl. I’ll say give momma kisses and she goes straight for the smacker. She kisses Dad too. Other people know better than to kiss her on the mouth but she sure tries! Maybe someday she (or I) won’t want to anymore but for right now it makes my heart happy.

Lol.  The irony of this is that it is generally agreed upon by those who study such that kissing likely originated/evolved from the act of moms chewing food and passing it to their babies in tribal days.

Yea it's awkward to me too and I remember being like "huh??" When I first saw it happen, but I guess just every family is different.
