Anyone have BCBS of AL & gotten the gender test done?

Does anyone have Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and gotten the gender blood test done? I'm curious as to how much the test costs.

What you should do is contact your OB's office to find out what procedure codes they use for billing. Then call BCBS AL and have them check your specific plan for coverage. I work in a medical office and even if you have the same insurance provider it does not mean you have the same coverage. Every plan is different.

I have BCBS of IL so I'm honestly not sure how different it is from state to state, but mine was covered. I also have an HMO if that makes a difference. You can always call the number on your BCBS card and ask them if genetic testing is covered and what it's covered at

I have BCBS in NY my Drs office does the MaternIT21 blood test and our copay portion was $200.

I have that exact insurance; I live in Pennsylvania and my company is based in Alabama. I waited until my scheduled 19-week appointment to find out gender, but I'm sure they'd overcharge for an earlier test. I'm already up to $750 in medical bills after insurance because my coverage sucks, and I'm halfway through pregnancy.

You really have to just call and ask. BC has so many different policies that the only way of knowing is to call and just ask.
