So my husbands mom and step dad are extremely partial to my sister-in-law's daughter. We live 6 hours from his sister and the grandparents live smack dab in the middle 3 hours from us both. Yet they always find time to go visit my niece, watch recitals, go to major life events, and celebrate her birthday, and such. We've invited them to come to our daughter's birthdays but they "can't take the time off" then low and behold 2 weeks later theyve taken time off for the nieces birthday. The last time they came to visit us was 1 year ago for Christmas. When we all did Christmas as a family the niece was gifted copious amounts of gifts and they gave my girls each 3. And they buy my niece all kinds of stuff all the time when they see her.

It's not the money spent that bothers me. It's that they make no effort to have any quality relationship with my kids. Its frustrating and when I bring it up to my husband he just brushes it off.

Is this normal behavior when it comes to the son's children vs the daughter's children?
