Aug turned July babies!
So the original plan was induction at 36 weeks because of discordance and my being diabetic. But twin A started catching up in size and my diabetes was doing good so they moved it to 37 weeks. Then to 38 weeks.
So for a week I had very swollen feet, the carpal tunnel in my hands was bad, and heartburn like you wouldn’t believe.
Fri I had pink tinged CM, thought I’d just talk to my doctor about it as I had an appt that afternoon. So I went to my normal Ob appt. she did my non stress test, group B strep, had me get blood drawn, wanted another non stress test done on Sat at the hospital, and have me collect urine for 24 hours.
Well it seems that night the girls had other plans. I was playing an event on a game on my phone. Finished the event go to roll over to take a nap and suddenly feel a rush of fluid. Having never felt my water break before (I was induced with my son), I thought I peed myself. Got up to check, wasn’t pee. Found some advice that said to lay down for 15-20 min then see if it happens again. I repeated this like 3-4 times before calling the hospital.
My hospital told me to had to the hospital that had the nicu. They monitored the girls for a while then did a pelvic to check on if there was a rupture or not. Sure enough my water was broke.
Admitted me around 11 that night. Started me on antibiotics (treated as if I had group b since the test results weren’t in yet), pictocin, and fluids. I was 3cm dilated and 60% effaced. Around 3am active labor started. By 5 I was 5-6cm and needed an epidural. (I’m extremely sensitive to pain in my stomach, and started getting sick.) 9am comes around and I’m fully dilated and feeling the need to push, the doctor was in a c section so I had to wait until almost 10.
At this point twin A was head down and B was breech. At 10:20 twin A was born weighing in at 4lbs 15.8oz and 18in. long. During that time B decided she was going to go transverse. They had to break her sac (as only A’s had broken). They were going to attempt to turn her but instead her butt blocked her escape and the best thing was a c section. So at 11:26 twin B was born via c section weighing 5lbs 15.6oz and 18.9in. long. The c section was a good choice as she was becoming distressed.
A is breathing fine on her own while B needs a little help. They’re predicting a 2 weeks stay in NICU.
Oddly enough my MFC doctor had been closely monitoring twin A because of the smaller size but B is the one needing a little extra help.

7/24 Update:
Both girls have had their IVs taken out. Evie is now breathing room air and eating via mouth. As long as they start gaining some weight and don’t have any problems with missed breathes for 5 conservative days they can be coming home as soon as next week.
7/25: I’m home it was so hard to leave my girls at the hospital. Anytime I think about it I get all sad and teary. Any mama who’s had to leave their babies for long time I really feel for you. I know mine is only a couple days to tops 2 weeks, but it sucks.
No more IVs, bandages, lights (preventative for Evie so she didn’t develop jaundice as her numbers were getting high). Evie still has her feeding tube, but she’s been taking her bottle by mouth.
