When’s the right time to start a family?

Hello everyone,
I’m 21 and I have been with this amazing guy for almost 6 years now and last year he proposed and of course I said yes !!! But we’ve been really thinking about starting a family but indecisive about when ? We both are still in college and have about two years left but I also don’t want to start a career being pregnant but I also wanna be a young mom. Can anyone give me some advice if your a young mom or still in school.

There isn’t a “right” age or “right time” for overall. It’s just when it works best for you. I’m 20 and my boyfriend is 28. I’m no longer in school (long story) and we are currently trying for a baby. You two just need to sit down and talk about when you would both feel comfortable and revisit the topic when you’re ready.

In my opinion, you should wait until you are out of college, even if you don't want to start a career, having a degree under your belt is a good idea in case you need it. and it will be way easier to get without having kids.

Honestly, I would wait until you're settled into your career. You're still a "young" mom if you get pregnant at 24/25! That way you've got no huge distractions from graduating OR situating into your dream job.

I’m 21 and have been TTC for 14 months now! I’m currently at the end of my degree and I’m glad I waited. I couldn’t have done my class load with a baby. Too stressful. Even at 23 you will be young! If you feel like you should wait then wait. There’s no rush. It’s better to be financially stable and ready for a kid than to struggle and worry about money all the time.

I wanted to be in a career and done with the majority of school. My husband and I were married for almost a year (been together for 7) before we started trying. I am a nurse and had a stable job and had been there long enough to get maternity leave. There really isn’t a great time but just make sure you are ready because it is definitely life changing. I would not have been ready at 21 or 22. I am now 27 and have a 7.5 month old son. My husband is 34.

I am 32 and expecting my first child, I got pregnant 4 months before graduating nursing school.  I just didn’t want to wait any longer.  I’m not really worried about my age but it has been a huge challenge to graduate and see all my friends get jobs except for me.  If I could do it over again I would have at least waited until I started a job then got pregnant.  I didn’t get to enjoy my graduation as much as I think I could have being 4 months pregnant.  Not only that but my husband is stuck working for the both of us, which we can afford but stressful at times.  I also was engaged when I found out and we got married in April.  I didn’t get to really have the celebration wedding I wanted.  I am happy but if I can give advice to someone else I am happy to.  I encourage you to get married have a wedding and finish college, once you get a job start trying.  You are very young still and would still be a young mom at 25.  I know you want a baby so bad but think about what you may sacrifice.

I’m going to tell you what I wish someone had told me when I was younger. I am a college graduate and I put off getting married and trying to start a family until recently and man I wish I would’ve started trying to start a family sooner especially cause no one tells you that not everyone gets pregnant right away. I started my career right after I graduated and omg was I so unhappy so for me it really wasn’t worth the wait. But u do u :)
