Our baby had the same thing. Pediatrician said it was a clogged duct and gave us an ointment prescription to help but by the time we were able to pick it up, it was gone. 
We also wiped his eyes frequently with a clean, warm, damp wash cloth. I’ve also seen to gently massage his nose near the eye to help anything clogged in there get out.

Start by massaging with a warm wash cloth.  Keep the wash cloth away from the other eye in case it’s contagious.
