buying your own engagement ring

I am in a relationship with a friend I've known for two years and I found an engagement ring (on accident) on Ebay that is retired from the jewelry store and I cant find it anywhere else. I asked my boyfriend if it was weird if I bought myself a ring that I'd want to use as an engagement ring and I just held on to it until I needed it. he said no it's not weird if I like it but it. do you guys think it's weird or okay?
