Breastfeeding and pumping?

How do you guys make a schedule for feeding and pumping? I don’t want to pump too much and get myself engorged. I’ve been strictly breastfeeding but have some things coming up where I need to start saving up milk. Also do you guys freeze everything for the future? I know nothing about pumping.  My breast feeding class ran out of time. When I do freeze, should I fill the bags?

I freeze as soon as I fill the bags or stoage bottles. My daughter is in NICU right now so I have the advantage to pump as much as I can and save it. Just date and put a time on it. I believe its good for up to a year in the freezer and if its not frozen its good for 5 days after thawed its good for 24hours. Tou can also google those questions about how long its good for. I'm 99% sure I'm right though.

Also our breast feeding class said not to worry about filling the bags to the top bc the baby won’t eat that much anyways. They actually suggested keeping it to 3-5 oz with each bag. That way you don’t waste milk the baby doesn’t eat.

Buy a Haakaa!! I use it at night to help with engorgement I have a nice stash saved up from just four days of use!

I wouldn’t wait till you fill the bags because you aren’t going to be feeding your baby that much in one sitting and you can’t re-heat breast milk so it would go to waste. I’m planning on freezing in a few ounce increments so they are ready to thaw and pour into a bottle. Definitely look up heating and storage instructions for breast milk, it depends on what type of freezer you have as well.

After nursing, I will pump to empty the milk out. Freezing depends on how full you want to fill the bags. If you pump the amount you want to freeze, put it in a bag and freeze right away. If you want to collect more you should store it in the refrigerator and cool it, then after you pump again storenitnin the refrigerator and cool it. You only want to combine milks when they are the same temperature. Then you can freeze it after. Hope that helps!
