So me and my in laws don’t have the best relationship. They are traditional older Mexicans (born in Mexico), they don’t really speak any English. I’m half Mexican and black. Both my parents were born here so I can’t really relate to typical mexican things. I would say my Spanish is average...enough to get me past basic questions but not enough to have a full on conversation. Not only is there a language barrier, but we don’t have much in common because I was brought up in an “American” household. It’s kind of frustrating cause sometimes I want to jump in their conversations but idk how to word certain things in Spanish. And I find it talking to them in English is kind of rude. I’m jealous of my bf’s sister in law because her parents are old fashion Mexicans born in Mexico so she can relate to them a lot more and have actual long conversations. I’m a very outgoing talkative funny person but I feel like they haven’t seen that side of me. Anyone have a problem similar? I really want a good relationship with them considered my bf and I plan on getting married next year so they will be my family.
