Had the worst prenatal appt ever today..

Haley

I went into my OB's office for a regular exam and ultrasound.. I was on cloud nine, so excited to see my baby girl again. I have my ultrasound done first and it was heavenly! Got to see her beautiful face and watch her move around. Then comes time for my exam. Dr walks into the room and tells me that my baby has stopped growing. She went from being in the 40th percentile to being in the 18th. All of this in just a few weeks time.. She starts talking about how my placenta may be detaching already, then brings up my weight (I'm tiny for being 3 weeks away from my due date), says I haven't gained enough and that it's effecting my baby. She makes it sound like it'a my fault. She's ripping me a new one saying I should have been treating my morning sickness with medication this whole time. Then she said my morning sickness isn't even morning sickness, t's reflux. Tells me to start taking tums (I throw them right back up). Just literally making it sound like I have risked my baby's life and health throughout my pregnancy by not doing something sooner. Idk what I was supposed to do exactly, scoop up my vomit out of the toilet and eat it?? I've been so sick my entire pregnancy.. not only with the vomiting but with horrible kidney infections too! So bad I was running fevers for days over them. She even made it sound like we could possibly lose our daughter..

I'm now sitting here at home thinking I did this to my baby.. Was there a warning sign I missed? Could I have been eating more? Idk.. just so upset.

My boyfriend told me to not worry. just a few weeks ago they were telling us how perfect and healthy she was, so how is she now facing major medical problems?

Sorry just had to vent.

Here's a picture of my beautiful little girl and her baby duck lips lol

If your doctor is this concerned why would they not induce you? How far along are you? I would be annoyed too and might question why this wasn’t mentioned to you any sooner and if this is the case now then what can be done to make sure baby is healthy and safe?? I would think if you are 37 weeks along then I would be requesting an induction and see what your doctor thinks. If your doctor isn’t helpful I might consider seeing a different obgyn for a second opinion since it sounds like tour doctor didn’t communicate to you about this issue in a very professional way.

I’m so sorry you had to go through this news and pray you and your baby are ok. I know how upsetting news like this can be and went through the scare of placenta abruption myself. Really tho there is no way to nicely say there may be a complication and I can understand the doctors view point when trying to explain it to you so you could understand why this is potentially occurring. I am sorry though that your going through this and maybe there was a misunderstanding bc you were upset about the news you received and just took it hard. You should definitely bring it to the doctor offices attention so they know how you felt when being told. Your doctor also may of just been really concerned bc at this point your baby is not fully developed and needs the placenta to get oxygen and nutrients with out it the baby dies plus if the baby is not getting what it needs from the placenta your baby doesn’t develop the right way and this could lead to health problems once born. Keep in mind the last few weeks the baby’s vital organs and lungs are still developing so this is why the doctor was concerned.

The one who told me all of this isn't my actual OB. She was a stand in for my Dr. So I'll consult with my OB and go from there. Hopefully she'll clear up any questions and tell me what's actually going on. I love my regular OB. She's very sweet, great bedside manner, and always lets me know in full what's going on with a game plan on how to handle everything.

UPDATE!! My baby girl made her grand entrance! She was born on July 26th at 11:50 am with ABSOLUTELY NO COMPLICATIONS! She is as healthy as can be! Just tiny. She weighted 4 pounds and 12 ounces, 18 inches long. I was induced due to preeclampsia. She is so perfect! Meet Zoe!

I had a similar appointment today. Found out he went from 65th percentile to 10th. However, I've gained 40 pounds. I think the babies do what they're going to do and that's why we keep getting checked out at our appointments. Don't think this is your fault. You've been doing what you can. Good luck to you!

If the placenta isn’t working right, shouldnt your baby be induced. Call your doctor tomorrow or ask for a more helpful doctor.

If it’s just an ultrasound tech and not the doctor the doctor would have to look over the findings to confirm first before anything will be done unless they saw you or your baby in physical distress. For now just be on bed rest and even if you feel sick keep eating to try and replace whatever you puke up

That's what I was thinking! She couldn't confirm that there's anything wrong with it. After talking with my bfs mom I think this doctor was just being a bitch. If there was a major problem they wouldn't have let me go home.

for sure! I'd also let them know that you request that doctor not be in contact with you again

Stay calm. You didn’t do anything wrong. You’ve attended all your appointments and they said baby was healthy all along - until today. They are the medical professionals and I’m sure if they’d told you ‘you need to do this’ then you would have. You’ve done everything a good mum would. If you are worried about your baby because of this appointment, insist on being monitored and what can be done. Make a nuisance of yourself if you have to. Ask if your baby needs to be induced and what can be done? Good luck x

If the situation is that concerning then they need to deliver you now. Your baby could die if there's a problem with the placenta. If it's detaching, you can bleed internally. If it was me, I'd insist on being delivered. Better to have an early baby than the alternative. Best of luck to you!! I hope you guys are OK.

contact your actual ob immediately. you dont have to deal with someone with such shitty bedside manner, especially in that condition if it's as bad as shes making itsound.. oh man I'd light up her office about her if it was me.
