Getting on BC

I’m 16 and have been dating my bf for a little over a year now. We’re not currently sexually active, however it’s been a whole year of dating and the time may be soon lol. I want to make sure I’m AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE because a child at this age would mess up my life. The thing is, I don’t know how to initiate a conversation with my mom about putting me on birth control. Don’t get me wrong, my mom & I are close, but not THAT close. I’d rather tell her I need to be on birth control than tell her I’m pregnant. Still though, I think having that conversation might disappoint her or just be awkward. I’ve tried the whole “my periods are awful and unpredictable” number, but that’s a lie. Not to mention, when she says she needs to put me on BC for my period, it never gets brought up again lmao. Should I just straight up tell her? I need adviceee.
