Boy stay Acting up

So my ex and I are talking as friends, we took a break but I texted back cause I miss speaking to him. that’s as far as I wanna go with it. But, we recently got into an argument and it feels like I’m back at square one with him. Should I just stop talking to him or just not reply back for a few days and start back up, or just text him back??? I would ask my bestie but I don’t want her to be disappointed in me cause she doesn’t know, and I know I should tell her everything but 🤦‍♀️☹️
