Are the parents at fault here? -POSSIBLE TRIGGER WARNING-

-POSSIBLE TRIGGER WARNING- In the town next to mine, I saw on the news that a fifteen year old boy was holding women at gunpoint and forcing them to perform sexual acts on him. He has since been caught, and he’s in a juvenile detention center waiting on his court date. 
I was reading comments on a Facebook post about this, and I was surprised at the amount of people saying he should be set free and his parents should face charges for this. I’m guessing they mean that they had to have raised him to think this behavior was okay, but personally, I believe that by the age of fifteen, that boy knew this behavior wasn’t acceptable. 
So, who was at fault? Was it the parents?

I voted both but I need a lot more information. 
What’s his parents life like? What was his home life like? Is this the kind of behavior he learned and had reinforced by his parents? Then yes. They’re EQUALLY at fault. 
If his parents are normal everyday parents, who taught him right from wrong and cared for him how parents should, then no. They’re not responsible. 
I do think under either circumstance that the boy is also responsible. He’s 15. And your parents aren’t the only people you learn right from wrong from. He would have learned in school as well and he’s plenty old enough to understand his actions.

He should know that is not appropriate or acceptable. This is HIM doing it, not his parents. The only think the parents should be charged for is not properly storing a gun.

Maybe if the parents left the gun out then that part is there fault but as far as him assisting woman that’s all on him. Some people are just shitty people. I don’t really care how someone was raised, at 15 you know what’s right or wrong. A crappy childhood does not give you license to break whatever law.

There's a family I know from growing up who have a son who is just awful. He's been arrested for various things and is incredibly violent. He's even threatened to kill his family when he gets out of prison so they never list their phone numbers or home address anywhere. The police have taken that info out of public record for them. They have 3 other kids who are nothing like that. I think blaming the parents is an easy way to place blame but it's not always how they were raised. Either way, humans have to take responsibility for their actions. If the boy was the one doing it, he has to face consequences.

I might get hate but I believe both. He definitely should know better by now but how the heck did he get a gun? This could have easily turned into another mass shooting and I believe there should have been some kind of monitoring that could have prevented this kid to walk out of his home with a weapon.

You don’t raise your child to be a rapist. It’s the child’s fault. Neglectful parents can partly be to blame but it’s the kids fault at the end of the day. Don’t do the crime if you don’t want to do the time
