mattress in a pack and play ?

so my baby grew out of the bassinet fast and we are room sharing with the pack and play. it came with a thin foldable mattress pad, but I noticed they sell 3" mattresses for pack and plays. what do you momma's use when your baby sleeps in a pack and play ???

I have a Graco pack n play and Graco doesn’t actually sell mattresses (like the 3” one you are talking about) they are from other aftermarket companies, in fact my pack n play says right on it NOT to add a mattress because it isn’t safe. 
All we added to the foldable “mattress”/base that comes with it is a fitted sheet and my son has never had a problem sleeping in it. For a little extra you could add a thin blanket or mattress protector UNDER the fitted sheet, but I would not add anything on top.

I personally wouldn't buy sort of mattress for it. The the mattress pad it comes with is plenty. They need that firm, flat surface. And please don't ever put a blanket or anything under the sheet for cushioning. That's so incredibly dangerous.

My daughter sleeps on the one that came with the pack n play and she sleeps fine, usually for 7-9 hours a night. I wouldn’t recommend adding a mattress, they say specifically on them not to add one.

We added a mattress to our PNP. That is LOs bed. We never bothered with a crib. Got the mattress off Amazon.

My son sleeps in his pack and play next to our bed also. I bought a 3inch mattress off of amazon and it fits perfectly (just make sure that you have no gaps on the sides)
Once he was able to roll, I took out the infant top and placed him to the bottom with the mattress.
Personally I felt that his mattress was no softer then that of a crib mattress.

I did buy and a pack and play mattress because my son seemed uncomfortable on the foldable board it came with as he would always kick and wiggle around. It was literally a wooden board. The pack and play mattress I bought is actually firmer than his pricier INFANT crib mattress lol There are risks and they don't recommend it due to SIDS apparently so do your research before you decide that's the best option for you and your LO. 😊 My LO loved it though. He went from waking up every few hours to sleeping 6-8 straight so it did make a difference in the quality of sleep my LO got.

Our son sleeps on the thin mattress it comes with because it is firm and he’s safe. We have the bassinet type pack and play, so he’s up higher than the standard one.
