Supporting criminals

What are your thoughts on people supporting athletes/musicians/actors... so essentially famous people, after they have been convicted of a crime?

I feel like there are a lot of people that are quick to just forget and move on because it’s their favourite band etc

I have a friend who loves Chris Brown and I’m like... but how!!

And I am not talking like something petty, I mean sexual assault, assault, drunk driving etc

If you are one of those people who can forgive and forget easily, what’s your thought process or reasoning?

oh, like all the fools on here who were going crazy when that one rapper died a few weeks ago, even tho he beat the shit outta his girlfriend and threatened to take some under aged girls? It's sad really, the praise and support that trash gets just because they are famous

I saw some stories that she wanted the charges dropped.. nothing about her denying it happened? Either way he is dead now and we will probably never know the truth fully of what went down. Alleged abuse aside he had a history of violence and saying fucked up things

Yeah, I’d come forward and say I lied to when someone threatens me. He had multipleeeee counts of witness tampering against him. I believe her still 🤷🏼‍♀️

I literally don’t respect a person after them having commit a crime like that & I honestly can’t even see how someone can look past behavior like that just because the person is talented or whatever. I’m a diehard horror fan, but I have enough willpower not to ever touch something Roman Polanski has worked on or directed because it would be going against my own conscience if I were to willingly fund a child rapist.

Right!!! I just don’t get how ppl can be like... oh but I love his music or he’s a great actor, how does that supersede the fact he did something horrible!

I don’t support them at all... I think it’s pathetic that people are so biased because they are talented. Disgusts me that they get a slap on the wrist only because they are “important” and they have the money to bail. You can literally get out of anything if you have the right amount of money.

I support people in general who have committed a crime, paid their debt to society and the ones they have wronged, and are now working to improve their lives. This holds true whether it is a celebrity or a "normal" person.

I completely agree with you. I think after someone does something really bad, they should lose the public’s support. When I saw what Chris Brown did to Rihanna, I decided I wouldn’t listen to any more of his music. Same with other actors and musicians. I’m sorry, but once you’ve crossed that line, I feel you don’t deserve support and fandom any more. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think it's gross. I can't do it.

I support anyone who's seen their wrongs and tried or is trying to better themselves and make up for what they did. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance, why not celebrities? Just because they are in the spotlight doesn't make them less deserving of a 2nd chance than "normal" people. I am one of those people that will still listen to & support xxxtentacion and Tekashi 6ix9ine. And I love pit bulls but I see no problem with Mike Vick being resigned. God forgives and gives 2nd chances all the time, who are we to not do the same?

I agree with the if you don't have anything nice to say then say nothing at all. And I'm definitely not someone who will think someone is a great person just because they died. If I didn't like or care for you when you were alive I'm not gonna be fake and act like I did. It's just always better not to speak ill of the dead.

I definetly think there is a difference between supporting someone who has commuted a horrible crime and someone who has died and people dragging their name through the mud, however just because they are dead I don’t think people should act like they are great people. My mantra is, if someone dies and you don’t have anything nice to say than don’t say anything at all

Maybe some do but not all. A 20yr old was shot, killed & robbed and all anyone wanted to talk about were his accusations. Not once does anyone mention the mental health issues he was trying to overcome,or that he was trying to make up for his wrongs and be a better person, or the charity had been doing & was about to do. Everyone was just so negative towards him even in death. Nobody moved on from his wrongs. So like I said everyone deserves a 2nd chance.

I can appreciate good art (as in art that i enjoy not necessarily everyone's just mine) but even then i can still dislike them as people. it's really east for me to separate the art from the artist. like "so and so makes amazing movies/music, but holy fuck are they an asshole."

For me, I ask this question: Have they been tried and convicted in a court of law or have they been tried and convicted in the court of public opinion? If it’s the first, yeah I will go out of my way to avoid them. But if it’s the second, I will do my own research and make up my own mind. Too many people have been tried, convicted and sentenced in the court of public opinion and it’s turned out it was all exaggerated and sensationalized to make money.
