What age did you get a real job? ( plzzz read description)

Question

I feel bad because I’m 16 and I don’t have a job and my parents are still buying things for me😩. I feel like I need to get a job, but my mom says don’t worry abt it and focus on school (straight A student) but my dad says it’s time to get one 😤
If you can, comment why I should or shouldn’t get a job and I’ll show my parents XO ❤️

Honey - my opinion is that if your parents are willing to pay for things for you while you’re young, let them! You’ll have plenty of time in your life to have a job and pay your own way through life. Take this time to still allow yourself to be a kid. Take it from someone who’s been working for a LONG time.

I was 17 when I got my first job. I worked part time at Hollister during the summer and then when I started up at school again didn’t work through school, only in the summers. I think if you can handle your schoolwork and extracurriculars while working a part time job it does teach you responsibility and is a way to earn a little extra money, but I don’t think it’s necessary and school and grades are more important during high school.

I got my first job when I was 17 but it was only for a couple of months (during my school holidays and then on weekends). I left though because it was too difficult to juggle Grade 12 and the job. Then I   formally went into the working pool a year later after school.

My dad wouldn’t let me have one when I was in school. He always said that school comes first. Although after I graduated high school I did hear him mention one time that he regretted that decision. Because I had no experience it was hard for me to do so when that time came. I was 23 when I got my first job. I didn’t even have to have one. I just wanted to feel like I had some kind of purpose, and also for the personal experience because I had never had one before and wanted to know what it was like. But that’s when I realized how poor my communication skills and people skills were. 
Maybe my dad was wrong for not letting me get a job in high school?🤷🏻‍♀️

If you can manage both school and a job, go for it! It’s great experience and it’s good to start making/saving your own money. I was a dance teacher from sophomore year to senior year of high school, now I’m a summer camp counsellor, and I will be a lab monitor at college when I go back. But if you take on a lot of extracurriculars and a heavy work load, don’t over stress yourself since your parents are very gracious to encourage you to focus on school.

At 17 I got a "real job" at a thrift store but it was a joke. Pay sucked. I was babysitting so it was a step up. Now I'm 19 (got my job at 18 while in highschool) I work ten to 12 hours a day four to five days a week. (Overtime is active) and I'm pregnant at 32 weeks and me and the husband are happy.

I’m 17 and have 3 jobs because my mom even refuses to feed me and my pregnant sister let alone pay for anything else. Take advantage of it while you can! Believe me

I worked a summer at subway when I was 16. I think it’s more important to focus on school and getting good grades than to get a job if you have that luxury. Always stay humble.
