did I cheat??

Question

I dont know if i cheated or not.
A little while ago i was in contact with my ex and we were friends before and during my relationship with my boyfriend.
I would say i love you to my ex as I do with the rest of my close friends and my boyfriend saw and freaked out and said i was cheating.
I didn't see it as cheating because i saw it as talking to my friend but the more my boyfriend brings it up the more conflicted i get about if I actually cheated. 
I don't talk to my ex any more and I'm still with my boyfriend. 
And so i guess i just want others opinions.
Do you guys count what I did as cheating?

I wouldn’t say it was cheating but your boyfriend probably feels disrespected maybe should have checked with him to see if it was ok

There’s just a certain line you don’t cross because 1. You shouldn’t be in contact with your ex or be friends with them after you break up that’s just weird there’s a reason it didn’t work out and 2. It’s not like you were on the phone and it accidentally slipped out you typed out the words and had to think about it before you hit send so to you it might not be cheating but if it was me in your boyfriends situation yeah i would think something was up.

In my opinion, you didn’t cheat. I can see why your boyfriend might freak out about it though. He just misunderstood the “i love you”.

But why would you tell an EX that you love them when you have a BOYFRIEND ?

It is only cheating if the I love you meant you were in love with your ex.

This is only my opinion (as someone who has been cheated on)..If you have to ask if it’s cheating...it probably is. 
Cheating isn’t only physical..and it can be different for everyone..but saying “I love you” well thats a big deal for everyone. I tell my kids, my family, and my best friends that I love them. I would never say it to an ex, especially when I have a SO. It may not be the usual “cheating” but something is definitely not okay.

Honestly ma’am, if you have to ask...maybe you need to do an honest introspect of your feelings and think about what your ex and your current SO mean to you.  Also consider what the words, “I love you” mean.  At one time this was a sacred phrase reserved for the love of our life and family.  Think hard about why you would choose to bestow that honour upon your ex when you have a SO in your life.  Think about how your actions are perceived by your SO and not just you.  Relationships are a two way street and our actions affect more than just the immediate bystanders involved.  Good luck

Put yourself in his shoes and see how it feels. If you have ask if you cheated than most likely you did.

If you didn't do anything you didn't cheat. However, even if you do tell all your friends that you love them I can still see why your husband is upset. With your ex you have previously had an intimate relationship so saying 'I love you' is, in my opinion, inappropriate. If my boyfriend ever did that I'd be very uncomfortable. If I was you, I'd speak to your boyfriend, tell him why you did it, but say that if it makes him uncomfortable you won't say it to your ex, or any ex, again.
