Period 6 days after getting mirena iud

Is it normal to get a heavy period right after getting an iud inserted? I was told I would spot and have cramps but I’m having a full on heavy flow, also I’ve been having super intense cramps all day every day, I had a few cramps the day of insertion and after but the 3rd day I got horrible cramps and they have not gotten better. Is this all normal? I’m sure I need to get adjusted to the iud I’m just shocked I’m having a period this bad.
