Do breathable bumpers actually stop babies head getting hurt if they hit it on the bars?? Or should I just get a normal bumper

I will be using bumpers they are safe my midwife and doctor even recommended them just because accidents have happened with other babies doesn’t mean they are unsafe for everyone.

The mesh bumpers are not really to keep babies from bumping their heads, they’re to help prevent their arms and legs from getting stuck in the slats and potentially being broken or injured.

I’ve not used bumpers with either of my kids so far. They’re really un necessary. Yes, they do bonk their heads but the baby isn’t going to bonk it’s head hard enough to hurt anything and the risk of a bruised forehead really can’t come close to outweighing the risk of suffocation and death. I think it’s just one of those things on the market that play to over protective parents. My daughter did get her foot stuck through the rails once but it was easy enough to get her un stuck without even waking her up.

Not true. My friends baby just died of sids at 8 months old. She had bumpers and all sorts of stuff in the crib. Pillow, blanket, etc. her child was almost walking and died in the middle of a nap. Don’t use bumpers.

Honestly ? Bumpers not safe. My son is a WILD sleeper. Even from birth. He used to move so much he was constantly hitting his body against the hard bassinet so we actually ended up buying a co-sleeper. Not sure if you’ll be breast feeding but if you are it’s super helpful !

I use regular bumpers. I didn’t use them until my son was about 5mo because then he was capable to roll both ways & he is a crazy sleeper. He would bash his head all the time & get his arms & legs caught which would wake him up at night. As long as they’re tight, & as long as your baby is capable of rolling both ways so they can move away from them, either should be fine.

I know that you shouldn't use them at all and I haven't but my daughter is 16 months old and keeps smacking her head would it be safe for her to have one?

Surprised doctors told you to get them. My ob for both daughters told me to NOT use them. They’re not safe and can/will cause your baby to suffocate. I’d rather not risk it, pretty crappy that you’re willing to risk it just because “it hasn’t happened to every baby”.
