Do you send multiple messages at a time? I mute anyone that can’t seem to send everything they need to say in just one text. 
Also if he’s at work a lot, and you’re the only one that contacts him, that might be a reason. 
Either way, I would just ask him.

My best friend mutes me a lot because im on of those assholes that sends a hundred texts at once but ive told her many times to just mute me 😂 just ask him
