Should I?

Question

My dad brought up birth control (on behalf of his wicked wife) a year ago, which I instantly shot down. It's not that I'm against it, I just don't want to take it.
And then my mom tells me she wants me on it when I turn 18 (apx 5 months), this is after she finds out I've had sex.
I don't want to be on birth control, at all, not only is it an inconvenience to me but I just don't want to.
What do you think? Should I start on it? Please leave personal stories on how it's helped you or how it's not (pros and cons).

(I am not sexually active and I am single, there is no plan to change either until after high school.)

I think its your body your decision. I started birth control my sophomore year of high school i was 16 i didnt have problems until i had a miscarriage last December i was 24. Yes i got pregnant on the pill, no i didn't miss any pill. Yes i took them the same time daily. I personally would not want my daughter going on the pill. It messes with your cycle and hormones and some people have very bad reactions to the pills. If its somthing you want to do please research the pills in general and specific pills see what the side effects are and other rates also look at what has been reported to the FDA about that specific pill and any other form of birth control you might concider. But i personally dont think you should go on any form of birth control just because thats what your parents want.

Your choice. Condoms work best for me. Hormonal bc really fucks me up. You decide but just be safe. Also if it is a major deal for her just pretend...

Well I know ur mom is probably trying to protect but it is also ur body and ur choice. I say as long as ur protecting yourself  your ok. U can get pregnant on the pill or using condom I know it more unlikely but there is always that chance when u become sexualy active. Good luck.

Not taking BC because you feel like it's an inconvenience is really irresponsible if you're sexually active. There are plenty of options like an IUD or the NuvaRing that are far less of a hassle than the pill. If you're having sex, your parents are right and you should be protecting yourself (and your partners) from pregnancy. Obviously you should still use condoms to prevent STIs.

I have used condoms for most of my adult life, I have tried the implant (had breakthrough bleeding) the mini pill and the pill (both of which I had bleeding and went a bit crazy cos of extra hormones) 
There are other options but if you can handle using condoms then I don't see what the problem is. To keep from getting stis you would need to use them anyway so I don't see why people feel the need to pump themselves with hormones, but again, you decide and each to their own. 
Ignore everyone else, choose what suits you.

If you got the depo shot it's not really a inconvenience just a shot every 3 months
