Should the military minimum age be raised?

Question

In the UK, the minimum age to become a soldier is 16 (with parental consent) and you can begin your application at 15y 7months. 
Do you feel this is too young? 
Those with different age requirements, do you feel those should be raised/lowered and why?

Minimum age in the U.S. is 18 
but I think it should be changed to 21 since you cant drink or smoke til then. 
But joining the military is ok?

Why though?
16 in the U.K. is when you’re legally allowed to leave school to go into full time employment. If people want to go into the Military as opposed to going onto 6th form/college/apprenticeships then that should be their choice.

Some people have no other career choices or means to support themselves. If they raised the age, you’d be effecting one of the highest enlistment ages in the US (as many say it should be changed to 21). It would drastically change OUR military. Not to mention, if someone knows that is what they want to do, like any other career after high school that doesn’t require a degree, why should they be forced to wait idly for 3-4 years?

It should definitely be raised my partners joined at 17 and been there 8 year, he’s been deployed too Afghan at such a young age and knows nothing else from the army, he’s seen things no young person should ever see and it has had such a Effect on his life x

People act like joining the military is signing your life away to violence and war🙄 please freaking educate yourself. In the US at 18 you can leave high school with a secure job, money to pay for college, training to do whatever job you get in the military, and free health insurance! It’s actually a fantastic idea for those who are undecided with what they want to do or can’t afford school. My husband is Airforce and we as a family have healthcare and a secure living at 22 and 24. They also pay for a spouses certification program or associates. And because he joined in Texas our child’s college is covered for any Texas school. 18 is old enough for sure.
