Inexpensive but safe carseat?

Question

I am looking to purchase a new car seat for my son in the future because I know he'll be growing out of his infant car seat eventually. We currently have a Graco Snugride click connect that goes up to 30 lbs (maybe a lil more, can't remember) and 33" (I think). He's about 27" and 20 lbs now at 7 months. I want something rear facing that isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg but that is really safe for him. Any recommendations?

Any seat is as safe as another. The more money you spend comes with more extras. I have a safety 1st grow and go. I like the seat. Hate the install. I would recommend join car seats for the littles on Facebook and seeing what they can help you with. And way to buckle him up right, makes me happy to see a safe baby!

I got the Graco contender 65 and love it, we’ll be getting another one for our next once he grows out of the infant seat. And they’ll be able to stay in these seats until they need the no back booster. Which I’m perfectly fine with having to buy that one more seat. The contender is usable from infant-toddler/school age.

I love my Grace Extend2Fit! Yes it costs a little more than the bare minimum but I know it’ll hold up for a WHILE. I shouldn’t need another seat until a booster seat years from now.  I was also in a small accident with my son in the car and he didn’t even act bothered, so when I went to replace it after the wreck I knew I’d be going for the exact same kind. All car seats go through testing to make sure they’re safe, it’s really up to you how long you want to make one seat last before forking out more money. Comfort was always a big thing in my decision, my son is pretty tall, he’s been in the 90% and up since birth so I went with the Extend2Fit because it helps keep him rear facing a little longer.

I really like Graco products. I have the convertible (my ride 65 I think) that we used for my daughter since birth. 
we have a Cosco carseat as a backup/in the other vehicles and it works fine but I'm not a huge fan of it bc it seems more barebones, not as much padding, even the plastic seems a bit thinner 🤷 they're cheap but they're cheap in my opinion

We have the Evenflo Platinum Series Symphony All-in-One. Worked great for our LO when she was still rear facing, and works great for her now that she’s forward. It has 3 different tilt settings. 1 is for rear facing, and 2 & 3 are for forward facing (at different weight/height). The head rest also adjusts to different heights for a growing child. It’s easy to use, and comfortable, and not super expensive.
