How long do you wait before calling someone your boyfriend/girlfriend?

I've been with this guy - talking- for about 7 months now, and we are sexually active, and he's met the family and I've met his and we're basically dating- like do everything couples do. Movies, dinner, bowling, ect. We've also astablished numerous timea that were only seeint eachother, but when I brought up the fact that I wasn't sure what to call him, all he had to say was "I don't think things need to change" and now any time I bring up the world boyfriend or girlfriend he kind of clams up. I don't know if it's because I'm moving too fast or he's moving too slow but I really like him, and I don't know how to really handle it. Does anyone have any advice?
