what is the stigma on daycare?

It seems like people don't understand what daycare is now a days. State requirements, NAEYC, STARS! It's not a babysitting service it a school for young minds. It provides learning, socialization, independence, is the foundation of education.

I'm just saying...I know from experience there is a popular chain of day cares that advertises that they have and use technology every day (computers). Yeah, for staff to log in and out for their shift. But for the kids, no. The computer in each room is stuffed in a cabinet and covered by arts and crafts materials. Never used by the kids.

Also, in my state, day cares (even the ones in the public schools through programs like More at 4) don't prepare the kids with what they need to enter kindergarten. There is no standard curriculum. Most kids with preschool experience come to me in Kindergarten knowing how to write their name, knowing 1-10 and identifying letters and sounds. These are great building blocks; however, K is today what first grade used to be. I teach my students how to read (and understand to provide written responses) and write stories (not just words). Most parents are caught off guard by the expectations for their child in K and are shocked to learn that Pre-K often just isn't enough. Home support is a huge factor in successfully transitioning between the two.

Daycare has been a very positive experience for us. We researched/interviewed almost ten of them before picking one attached to a school. The directors and teachers there are amazing people. She's almost three and can add by one and two up to the twenties, knows the planets, knows the polygons up to octogon, and so many other really cool things. And, there are birthday parties to go to a couple times a month. I'm not saying there aren't bad daycares out there, but our experience has been fantastic.
   
But, of course, I've been mommy-shamed by some (not most) other mothers. The lame "I would never want strangers raising my child line" used to annoy me but now I just chuckle inside. I don't know why some people feel like they need to put down the alternative to make their choices seem better. There are great SAHMs and maybe some that aren't so great -- same for childcare alternatives.

My daughter has been in 7 different daycare centers. and their were only two of witch she was fully and appropriately cared for. 2 out of 7. I think I have a reason to not trust them. One was a daycare at a collage where I took ged classes. They were super amazing. The other was the second daycare she was ever in, it was a small daycare connected to a behavioral placement. Small class sizes? Unfortunately because of the location to many people were worried about what would happen if someone in the behavioral program somehow got into the daycare, they lacked the kids needed to stay open and had to close.  I have had issues from daycare staff hurting my child, to her not being fed.

Not every daycare is bad, but there are things parents need to know the truth about. I've seen the AWESOME and totally ugly.

I do not think there is anything wrong with daycares, and honestly I wish my babes got the socialization.  but my husband and I both wanted our babies raised at home.  fortunately we had the option of me staying home to do that.  I think if there is negative stigma it is probably due to the media  over hyping the  abuse that has happened at some facilities.  they make one bad facility look like everyone is potentially like that.
