Does anyone have a dog with epilepsy?

Our four year old Rottweiler, Beau, had 3 grand mal seizures yesterday and has since been diagnosed with epilepsy. He has had absence seizures/hallucinations in the past but we attributed this to his anxiety/ocd issues. Seeing him have a seizure was the most terrifying, helpless situation I have ever been in. He’s 135 pounds, so that’s a lot of weight to be throwing around, and my husband and I were both screaming and crying and frantically trying to stop him from getting hurt. He’s in ICU at the animal hospital and has been seizure free since they started an IV treatment of I believe phenobarbital and just started with an oral pill as well. Does anyone here have a dog with epilepsy? I’m so scared and so upset. This dog is my husband’s and my life, we’d do anything to keep him happy and healthy.

My dog Lacie has had seizures since she was about 8 months old. She is almost 8 years old now. We have been on seizure meds, adjusted doses, and made several trips to the emergency vet for seizures that "train"(or run back to back and don't stop) until she gets IV meds. It still sucks, but over time we have all gotten used to the seizures and we simply clean up and go on with our day. They definitely aren't as scary anymore.
It was actually a blessing in disguise for me, because when my daughter was born there was birth trauma that caused her to have seizures for a couple of days, and I was so used to them, that while I was horrified that my baby had them, I wasnt scared of the seizure itself because I had seen them so much before. 
This is her on the way to our last vet appointment to get her Phenobarbital levels checked!

I am so sorry. I had a cat that had one grand mall seizure and passed away. We had no idea he was epileptic until ut was too late. I was devastated. Im praying for your beautiful boy and family💕

I had a dog with epilepsy.  Did they rule out infection in the spinal fluid? Did they rule out tumors or lesions in the brain? Did they do blood work?  Epilepsy is only diagnosed once they rule out any other underlying cause of the seizure.  Feel free to ask me any questions at all.  Also feel free to check out CEN online (Canine Epilepsy Network).

My boyfriends dog has seizures due to liver problems. It started about a year ago and it’s absolutely terrifying. He hasn’t had any recently as we think we fixed his liver, but you never know if it’ll come back. He’s 13 almost 14 and if they do come back and we can’t help him we’re going to have to put him down 😔 I’m trying to slowly desensitize my bf to that fact so hopefully it won’t be as much of a shock when it does happen, but you can never tell when it’s time until it’s time

My baby was never taken to a vet as my parents kept saying they didn’t have the money (which I understand as this dog had multiple surgeries and after a while it became to much money) but I was in 6th grade the first time I had been alone and saw him have a seizure. I hadn’t even known he had then but I called my parents and they told me to just place blankets around him and pillows and when he stopped to just hold him for a while. So I did an to my knowledge that was actually the last one he had till my sophomore year of high school and I stayed the weekend at my grandparents. My parents picked me up and told me that my dog had another seizures and he had passed. Honestly I didn’t see it coming and I was heartbroken. For a long time I was mad at my parents for not taking him to the vet years before.

9 years ago we had a kelpie with epilepsy, unfortunately she didnt get to see her first birthday but she was the sweetest pup. i was the first ti find her having her first seizure as she was right outside my room, i was around 11 or 12 at the time and it still haunts me now. her last day she went blind but still ran to me when i got off the school bus, we had a strong bond and i was so devistated when dad said she passed on the way to the vets (he lied to us all and he actually had her put down because he didn't want to pay lots of vet bills)
