Mirena IUD-please respond!

Abby

Hi guys! There are hundreds of posts on here already about the Mirena, which i realize, but I just want to get some advice. I am scheduled to get mine put in on August 8, which is about a week before my period would start. My doctor told me that it would be easier for me to put it in during my cycle, but that she was fine with doing it sooner if I was ready. I’m having anxiety about it now, so I am just wondering if it would be worth it to reschedule my appointment? I do have a relatively high pain tolerance, but I know it will still hurt like a bitch, lol. Did any of you get it put in around the same time during your cycle? I would love to hear about the pain and the amount of bleeding afterwards so i can prepare myself.

My doctor recommended taking 600-800mg ibuprofen a few hours before, and funnily enough, has found that having electrolytes (Gatorade, etc) has helped her patients with nausea after and she keeps some on hand for everyone. I had to go back a second day bc too much resistance the first, which she (anecdotally) has found isn’t uncommon when someone had been on the pill for a long time. So, I was given a suppository to help soften my cervix overnight before going back in. Worked fine, although not comfortable, and just some discomfort and cramping for the day after.

I got mine put in 9 weeks after I gave birth so I hadn’t had a period yet. But I didn’t feel a thing when the doctor put it in. I didn’t have any cramping afterwards and only spotted until the next day. I’ve heard horror stories of it being painful but I didn’t feel anything. My pain tolerance is also high though. I even gave birth without an epidural. My doctor said it’s about having good technique when the insert it too.

I had a bad insertion with the Mirena, I couldn’t do anything for five days and I was vomiting in pain but honestly it’s SO worth it. Take plenty of painkillers before and they numb you up anyway. Good luck!

If you have ever had an IUD before, then I wouldn’t worry about it. Mirena is slightly bigger than most IUD’s, but I just had mine put in 2 days ago and it wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting- plus I didn’t take pain medication beforehand. You’ll be fine girly!

I recommend asking for a numbing shot in your cervix! I think it really made a difference for me. It didn't even hurt to get it, after I got that shot.

I’ve had mine in for 3 years and it was a piece of cake! The pain doesn’t last long at all. Once it’s over with you’re gonna feel great, like you’re free! Haha I had really bad cramping for the rest of the day but just took it easy. Now I barely get periods and don’t even know it’s there. Good luck and don’t be nervous! I promise it’s nothing!

I had mine inserted when I wasn’t on my period I just ended when I got it. It was kind of painful but I was able to handle it and just breath through it because it lasts 3 seconds. I spotted for 6 weeks then I got my period still and just recently they started going away.
