When did you start your daycare search?

When did you guys start your daycare search? I'm 23 weeks and I've started putting together a list of places, but my SO keeps telling me that it's too early to reach out to centers/in home providers. He feels like we should wait until the baby is born. My type A/OCD voice started screaming. lol

As an experienced daycare worker in the infant room for over five years, please don’t wait too long. One person can only have four infants in a room at once so it can be difficult to find an open slot. 😊

Started looking in the first trimester because the day care at the university that I work at has a year wait list for infants! Most places we looked only had a few months and some no wait list at all. The one we ended up choosing was scheduling new infants in February, right where we needed so I'm glad we started looking early!

I suggest you visit the places and  do your research now. Most good places where I live, have a 6 months to a  year waiting list. It’s never too early! Lots of places get filled up quick, so it is best to sign up as soon as possible and or be in a waiting list that can guarantee you a soot when you plan on going back to work.

Waiting lists are crazy, plus, it genuinely can be hard to find a center that meshes well with you and your child’s needs! Don’t be afraid to get picky!!

I chose second trimester but actually come to think of it I’m pretty sure I was still in the first trimester! And we only barely got off the waitlist by the time I went back to work at 10 weeks postpartum. We did get into my first choice location, though, so it was worth the wait!

Start as early as possible. It is so hard to find infant daycare that if you wait until after the baby is born you could have a hard time getting in anywhere. I started when I was about 12 weeks pregnant and still most places told me they wouldn’t have openings until my son was almost a year old. I got lucky and found a lady who takes kids at her house and she’s worked out great. I’m still technically on the waiting list for several daycares. My son is 8 months old and none of them have had an opening.

We toured when I was 12 weeks pregnant. The wait list for the infant room at our first choice facility was a year long--got put on the list June 15th, 2017, and LO started June 4th, 2)18 at 5 months old. DON'T WAIT, especially if you want a place in high demand.
