Should special needs kids be given less time for crimes
So at work some people were discussing about how a special needs 18 yr old pushed a young boy off the top of a 30 ft water slide because the line was moving too slow and broke/ shattered several bones - he was charged with 3rd degree assault and some people were saying he shouldn’t be charged at all because he’s mentally challenged - I think he should get charged appropriately as he admitted he knew what he was doing
EDIT : I have 2 special needs siblings one with Down syndrome and the other cerebral palsy- they both are fully aware of what they are doing and right from wrong. They are also aware that people will treat them differently because of their disability’s and will try to over play it/ use that to their advantage at times
