It depends on how old baby is.

So apparently they did a study on baby monkeys to test their cortisol levels when forced to cry it out and they were through the roof, on par with physical trauma. Even when they stopped crying when separated the cortisol levels remained the same, even eighty days later.
My parents did CIO and I turned out fine.
That said. I did attachment theory parenting which means you do not let your infant cry it out. Many of my friends did the same. I do see behavioral differences between CIO family members and those who did AP. My son is naturally growing independent and we are always told that he is unnaturally good.

Need more information, completely depends on age. If it’s a new born not long maybe a minute or two to take a break. If over 6 months and you’re sleep training you can do checks or intervals of 15-30 mins. There’s just not enough info here.
