What age did you get a credit card? When do you recommend getting it?

I got mine at 18..I used it to establish credit; not to buy items I couldn't afford. It's easy to get into the mindset "I'll just put it on my credit card and make minimum payments" so be careful

Get it as soon as possible, use it wisely and start building up credit, so you can get good apartments, betters loans, etc. Not to mention bad credit will also make it harder just to get items like a phone.

Everyone's situation is different, but I got mine at the age of 18 right before heading off to college. I definitely had my parents as a safety net in case I wasn't able to make enough with my part time job to contribute towards paying it off month to month. I'd say if you have that kind of support, it's a great idea to start building credit as soon as you can. I am 24 now, pay all my bills by myself and have a better credit score than many people I know in their 30's. Again, all depends on your situation. Also keep in mind you do not need to put all of your expenditures on a credit card and you do not/really shouldn't pay off your full balance each month. If you have a stable income/substantial support should things turn bad for ya for a bit of time, I definitely recommend getting one. If this situation doesn't apply to you and you're doing everything on your own/ barely scraping by I would work towards making this a realistic goal for yourself as soon as possible. Good credit opens so many doors for you. Bad credit/no credit at all limits these same opportunities. Hope this helps!
