Teething! First tooth is a MOLAR?

Question

How common is it for a first tooth to be a molar  (tooth is on the top right far back) ? Should I be concerned?

My 15 month old FINLLY got his first tooth. He is in so much pain. Inconsolable sometimes I resort to Tylenol and baby orajel. 
I’ve been waiting for this for awhile but I didn’t know it would be this hard. I thought his first tooth would be one of the bottom 2 he has white buds but nothing there yet. 
His 15 month checkup is soon. I’m hoping he doesn’t have an ear infection and this is just teething. 
Any teething advice and knowledge would be appreciated.

Hey at least you got away with 15 months of no teething! Because it definitely sucks haha. I mean it’s the right time for molars to be coming in. It’s not common for the molars to be the first teeth. Usually like you said the bottom central incisors are typically first. But not all babies are different. Those little teeth are just late bloomers. I’m sure you’ve already spoke with your doctor about it at precious appointments like his 12 month visit. Molars do seem to be the worst though. My 14 month old just got three at once. Two bottom ones and a top one. He had fevers for a few days and just was in so much pain. We even did Motrin and Tylenol so we could give meds every 3 hours because he was in so much pain and his fever just wouldn’t stay away otherwise.

My son has 4 molars and it's common to start getting them at that age.. but my health nurse told me if my son didnt get a tooth by age one to see her as they should have a tooth by 1? so I don't know? :/ I'm sure it's fine! I mean I can't imagine it being an issue! poor fella must be in so much pain :(

Teeth can come through in any order! It may be unusual but definitely normal!

You dodged the teething bullet for a long time! Lucky! My LO just had teeth 11 and 12 come through.  I think his molars were something like number 8 and 10. Definitely unusual for the molars to be first. But at least you’re getting the hard one out of the way first!
