Advice on Honoring Family with Middle Name

So my boyfriend and I decided if we have a boy his first name will be my bfs middle name (Ryan) and we wanted to honor my step dad Gennaro (he’s been more of a father to me than my own dad and his biological kids treat him like crap so I wanted to show him he’s still important and special in my life) and when we presented the idea to my family everyone thought it was stupid, they all laughed, etc. I don’t know if I should just go ahead and do it anyways even though I feel disrespected or if I should choose a different middle name? My step dad didn’t even seem excited and actually tried to tell me different name suggestions. I just don’t know how to feel cause I was trying to do it to honor and cherish my stepdad.
