Sorry TMI question about cerclage & restrictions

Hi ladies,

I just got my cerclage places yesterday! I was told everything went well and was straight forward. However I was wondering has anyone had watery discharge after their cerclage? I’m still spotting a bit but it’s slightly watery as well. I’m just a bit concerned as I don’t want it to be amniotic fluid leaking.

Also I wasn’t really given any sort of list of restrictions or things to watch out for aside from heavy bleeding or pain. Would anyone be able to share what they were told restriction wise?

I was also told to come back for an appointment in a week. Is this standard procedure? My doctor never mentioned it that I would be having a follow up appointment.

Any insight you ladies could provide would be appreciated! Thanks!

After my cerclage and even now (34w) I have had discharge to the point that I have to wear a panty liner. It’s a watery substance. The dr. told me that some women experience this and others do not. He said since the string is a foreign object inside your body it’s a natural way your body is trying to get rid of it. I wouldn’t worry about the discharge. Regarding restrictions I was told not to lift anything heavier then 10 pounds and to listen to my body. Resting on your left side relieves pressure on your cervix. Best of luck to you!!

Hi Erica, thank you for your response. It’s good to know that watery discharge seems normal! I definitely plan to take it easy! Thanks so much and I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well!

They told me spotting and light discharge would be normal the first week.I was also not given much advice kn exact restrictions, but I see my doctor next week to follow up. I am just listening to my body and taking it very easy for now (working from home etc.)was it a preventative cerclage or rescue/emergency? Mine was rescue at 22+6

Hi Heather, thank you for your response. It’s good to know that spotting and discharge is normal the first week, I thought only the first couple of days for some reason. I am definitely taking it easy. My cerclage was a preventative cerclage at 14 and 6
