Are you going to get an IV or try to stay hydrated orally?

Question

I am trying to avoid needles so I can move around with ease, but I don't know if I would remember to drink water.... What about you ladies?

At my hospital it's not a choice. You get an IV with fluids upon admission, and you're not allowed to eat or drink anything in case of emergency c-section in case you aspirate. Ice chips only.

I need antibiotics during labor and delivery, so ill have an iv. But having an iv doesnt make it harder to walk around and stuff. You can Get one that can be detatched from the needle in your arm or whatnot.

I am low risk but requesting an IV on admission. I would much rather have one placed and capped (it isn't hooked up to a pump) so I can still move around freely but that way they already have IV access in case of an emergency. I would hate for them to have to waste the 5 min placing an IV in an emergency when they could be doing more important things if the IV is already placed.

All you ladies not allowed to eat in labour... My midwife has practically told me to bring a picnic haha I've been told to bring isotonic drinks and jelly babies as well as plenty of other snacks because I'll need them to keep my energy levels up... labour is hard work!

I'm in the UK and have planned for a natural unmediated water birth.

My midwife said she will use the heplock so that I am free to walk and move around without being hooked up the whole time

I'm asking for a saline lock, so the port is there. But not hooked up getting constant fluids, I want to be able to move around & labor.

I had planned on an iv free birth but I have GBS so I am just going to request a hep lock.
