When should I buy breast pump? Before or after I give birth?

Definitely check with insurance first. I have UHC and they cover a double electric pump at 100%. The companies that provide them will not process the request though until you are within 30 days of your due date.

Most insurances cover them (if you're in the U.S.) Call them and find out! Mine covers an automatic double pump at 100%. My dr has to write a prescription and I take it to a med supply store and get it there. But insurance won't cover until after you have the baby.

I got mine through insurance and didn't have to wait until a certain time away from my due date! Call your insurance to get a list of companies they work with and then you can call the company and see what options your insurance will cover. Mine covered 4 different brands, but I went with Medela.

Buy before but dont open it. Once opened you can't  return it. It is possible some moms dont need them. Buy in advancd, open the day you need it

I'm a FTM, so I don't have any experience with this, but it seems to me that before baby is best. 1. As busy as this time may be, we'll be busier when baby is here 2. If you have it from the start you can pump when you need to, without having to wait 3. If you can get it through your insurance, there may be some hoops to jump through or steps to take that may take longer than expected. Good luck!

Obama made it so that ins companies will cover pumps. Depending on the ins policy determines which ones are available. Call your ins. Company now, they send it out around 30 wks (at least mine is). Waiting until after you've delivered might take too long and be too late.

My insurance covers it as long as baby is born before 37 weeks, or after birth if doc writes a prescription saying I need it because either I or baby have problems with feeding. Check out what your insurance guidelines are.

My insurance covered a pump and I already got it. I didn't need to wait until 30 days before or after baby was born.
